Q: What kind of special tools are there for a audi a4 b5 platform(97-99)?
i want to repair my audi a4 1.8t by myself, i want to do just about everyting to it, but don't know what tools to get before i do the future repairs. as for the repairs, anything from the engine to the suspension to electrical. can anyone name me every special tool there is for an audi a4 1.8t, 97 and 99? because i have 2 i want to repair.

A: Audi's are some of the best cars available anywhere in the world, and there are many people totally devoted to them. The answer is: you can do almost anything yourself, provided that you are clever, mechanically inclined, and listen for good advice. There is a company called Blaufergnugen on the web. They have any and all genuine Audi repair tools they will be happy to send you with a deposit, of course. They also have some of the best prices for wear items like timing belts, pulleys, rollers, etc. Buy a Robert Bentley manual. Look on the web!!! In your spare time, read it. Then, read it again. There is more engineering in an Audi door than in many other car makers entire car!!! (I am joking, of course!) Always use only genuine Audi parts, with the exception of the water pump. Here, you should use the pump indicated at Blaufergnugen. Use only oil meeting VW/Audi spec 420/405. In other words, use only Mobil One, ELF, or AMZOIL. Some new Castol formulations are acceptable, but only if they clearly state on them they meet the spec mentioned above! With a little determination you can change your brake fluid (every 2 years) yourself. A properly maintained Audi will last for several automotive lifetimes. I personally have customers with over 300,000 miles on their cars with a minimum of replaced parts. Learn to keep your engine bay clean at all times. When you are bored, clean your intake system and hoses once or twice a year. Don't be afraid to push your car, sometimes. The Audi engine has oil spray jets built in that keep the piston wrist pins under constant lubrication. The highest wear item is the ball joints. If you have any questions, call Blaufergnugen or ALL AUDI at 1-800-all-audi. They should have answers. There is a special tool too help you change the struts without removing the strut ass-embly, should you need this to be done. Also, check with Audi, about extending your warranty. They usually will if you are able to supply them with proper maintenance documentation. You can remove the alternator easily and repalce the brushes in it cheaply, yourself. Or, have it rebuilt at an alternator store (when you need this to be done at around 150,000 miles). higher performance brake pads are available at the B place, as well. Check out their web-site. Good Luck!!!

Q: repairing brake lights on an audi a4 b5?
the two back brake lights on my audi a4 don't come on anymore. the middle one does though i checked the fuse. its fine what else could be wrong? is it likely the two bulbs are blown at the same time?

A: I think they could be both blown. I had a different make of car all together, the issue for me was a faulty relay when I had the same problem. They may have a relay switch as well.

Q: Does the v6 Audi S4 18 inch rims fit the Audi B5 S4?

A: The B5 Audi S4 was only V6. Same Car buddy. B6 (2003-2005) Was V8. So...Yes.

Q: Is it possible to install the Quattro system onto an Audi that does not have it stock?
Particularly, I would like to know with regards to the Audi B5 S4, or B6 S4. Thank you.

A: You could. But it would cost way more money than just buying the Quattro car, it would require replacing the most of the suspension, adding in new electronics and AWD components from a Quattro car to make it work, and maybe even the front subframe since it could also be different. Your extreme modifications would make your car worth nothing too.

Q: In what years was the b5 Audi A4 offered with leather interior?
my friend has a 1998 (or 1998.5) audi a4, and it looks and feels like leather, its a mocha brown color, as far as i know, most audi a4s either have cloth interior or leatherette interior

A: Depends what country you are located. In the US, the '98 A4 was available with 2 different engine options: 1.8T (4 cylinder turbo) and 2.8 liter (V6). Leather seats were an option in '98....but only for the A4 models with 2.8 liter engines. The standard was either cloth or leatherette seat upholstery. I believe the leatherette has tiny holes in the material (for air circulation possibly?). In summary, leather was an option available on all 2.8 B5 A4s through 2001 (in 2002 the B6 chassis was introduced in the US).

Q: What was included in the sport package for the 1996-2001 audi a4 (b5)?

A: check kbb.com

Q: BMW E46 vs AUDI B5 S4?
Should I buy S4 manual or bmw 330Ci, 328Ci manual and Why ???

A: Out of all these the E46, which is a Mercedes, not a BMW is the best, after that, 330i, S4 b5, then the 328, all good cars though, you'll wanna go with the manual in all of them except the E46 which doesn't offer one.

Q: anyone know where i can download a free copy of bentley repair manual for a audi a4(b5)?

A: I am not sure where you can find this book for free, whether it is a download, or from someone. But, you can go to the public library in the Business, Science, Technology department to find a book you can copy. They should have factory service manuals, the usual published car books, and the Mitchell Automotive manual series. Mitchell is, by far, the best. Find the book(s) they have for your model, and use the copy machine to copy what you need. Even all the major things about your vehicle won't cost much at only ten cents per page. Especially since you can get two pages on an 11 X 17 page for that price.

Q: Audi A4 B5 Air filter change help?!?
i need to know where the air filter is on a 1999 audi a4 1.8t. i want to replace it with a K&N air filter. how can i change it? where is it located exactly? cuz i really cannot find it. a step-by-step would be great thank you.

A: Passenger side, its the large plastic box with a large black tube going to the throttle body. There should be 3 or 4 clips keeping it closed. Just pop those clips and swap the filter, 2 minutes max.

Q: B5 Audi S4 or E36 BMW M3?
I am looking to buy my first car and it has to be under $10,000. I think I have narrowed it down to two. The s4 and the m3. I am into cars and want to have something fun. The s4 has twin turbos, but that means when they blow out, I have to spend a lot of money that I don't have. Since my budget is low, the cars will have close to 100,000 miles. So, S4 or M3? I know that if you add a chip to the S4, for like 500 bucks, it will add about 70 hp. It's also hard to find an s4 in manual.

A: first off let me say that becauase of your limited budget i HIGHLY suggest you get something more economical and practical. TRUST me on this one you will have problems soon if they havn't already. in general, high performance cars like those two are more likely to have problems than others, not to mention they are both older and german. do yourself a favor and buy something else. they are cool but...just get something else don't make a huge financial mistake that will cost you thousands of more dollars in the long run.

Q: Is this a no go? Audi A4 b5 $1500?
Found this car from a guy who sells cars from car auctions. This is a black Audi A4, 130,000 miles, with whole lot of little things broken. 1. Sunroof won't open. 2. Driver side back door won't open, no structural damage. 3. No radio. 4. Needs a battery. 5. AC needs recharged. 6. Owner said the car recently stalled and he can't get it to start. Speculates it being a fuel filter. Its a whole bunch of small stuff excluding the car not starting. Im thinking i may want to replace the timing belt as its a high mileage car, and the owner doesn't have past history for it. My family has been working with Audis for awhile so we should be able to handle most small stuff with ease. Good, Bad? Okay well, this wasn't very much help. Some of you were downright rude so i guess thats that.

A: What year is it? Audi parts are very expensive and beyond the problems that are mentioned I am sure there are much more. If you really like the car and you think you can fix all of the problems for cheap then go for it, but if you have any doubts then keep looking. I am sure you can find a Audi A4 that runs and in better condition for 2,500 check craigslist.com

Q: e46 bmw 330ci or b5 audi s4?

A: I have a fully loaded 2000 silver Audi S4 6spd stick and love it. It really depends on what you want because the 330 and S4 are completely different cars w/ way different characteristics. A prime example is the Audi is all wheel drive and the CI is rear wheel drive. I live in CO and go into the mountains frequently and the AWD performs flawlessly. Also, because the Audi is bi-turbocharged, many mods can be done to it that can drastically increase performance. Upgrades to the BMW will not give as much performance gains because it is a naturally aspirated engine. Additionally, the S4 will smoke the 330 straight up so if you are looking just at performance, the S4 rules. Anyways, I love the combination of the performance and luxury of the S4 and would def suggest it to anyone.

Q: audi s4 b5 vs bmw e46?
I'm looking to buy new car BMW 00-01 328ci, 330ci (80k) or 00-01 s4 (80k) which one will give me less problems

A: That's not even a corrrect comparison. The S4 is a performance version of the A4 and the 328ci is just another 3-series from BMW. Are you looking for an everyday car or a sport tuned sedan? I wouldn't go for either because of the miles on both. If you can find a S4 with less miles go for it. German cars have a lot of maintenance when they get into the high miles. Audi's may cost more than BMW in maintenance cost, but depends on where you go. If you get a certified used, then you may be covered for some things. Either way, it's about the same for maintenence. Check with the previous owner about keeping up with maintenance.
